Inbox rules only fire ten minutes after a mail arrives
Outlook client-side rules only run when Outlook is open. Server-side rules fire instantly regardless of client.
Try this first
- 1Check whether your rule is client-only (icon next to it in the rules menu)
- 2Recreate as a server-side rule via Outlook Web or Exchange admin
- 3Avoid client-only actions (play sound, show popup)
- 4Test by closing the client and receiving a mail
When to bring us in
If a rule must be server-side but Outlook downgrades it to client: rebuild via OWA.
