Flow goes live, turns out field X maps empty, customer sees odd data

Testing mappings on real production payloads is essential. iPaaS tools show a sample of the first record, but variance lives in the tail: nulls, enums, too-long strings, accents.

Try this first

  1. 1Collect 5 to 10 representative payloads from production: a normal one, one with null fields, one with long strings, one with special characters, a boundary case.
  2. 2Run the flow in test mode against each payload and check output field-by-field in the target API or a staging env.
  3. 3Make a mapping table in a doc: source field, target field, transform, edge-case result. That doc is gold later on schema changes.
  4. 4Build a test-suite flow that pulls a fixed payload set through the logic nightly and alerts if output deviates from baseline.
  5. 5For financial flows: get a second pair of eyes before go-live, not just after the first customer complaint.
